Crysalis Biosciences Inc. Invests $239.5 Million for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Facility in Sauget
Sauget, IL, United States, September 5, 2024 — Governor JB Pritzker, Crysalis Biosciences Inc. and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today announced a Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) agreement for Crysalis’ $239.5 million investment to develop a first-of-its-kind sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant. The investment, which creates at least 35 new jobs in Sauget, will transform the fuel and chemical industry while reducing the carbon footprint in Illinois by manufacturing SAF, an alternative jet fuel made with a smaller carbon footprint.

Airbus and partners invest in Sustainable Aviation Fuel financing fund
Farnborough, United Kingdom, 23 July 2024 — Airbus, the Air France-KLM Group, Associated Energy Group, LLC, BNP Paribas, Burnham Sterling, Mitsubishi HC Capital Inc. and Qantas Airways Limited co-invested in a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) financing fund to accelerate the production of SAF.

Nitto Denko Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “Nitto”) is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with Crysalis Biosciences Inc., (hereinafter referred to as “Crysalis”) to jointly develop plant-derived acetonitrile as a bio-based solvent, as well as to invest in Crysalis, as part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.

Crysalis recently purchased a 55 Mgal/yr ethanol facility in Sauget, Illinois. We are transforming this 57-acre asset from conventional fuel ethanol production to a 30 Mgal/yr Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production facility. This $200 MM project applies our intellectual property portfolio with plant design and construction capabilities to retrofit this plant to produce low carbon intensity SAF.

Low-Carbon Acetonitrile:
Crysalis and Nitto Denko Innovation
An increase in the global demand for acetonitrile is emerging, driven by its applications within the pharmaceutical industry and as a solvent for next-generation batteries. Crysalis and Nitto Denko Corporation are partnering to design and build the world’s first bio-based low carbon intensity acetonitrile plant. This 5 kTa/yr bio-acetonitrile plant will help support the world-wide demand for acetonitrile.
